-The Deconstruction of characters into contemporary art could be vivid multimodal discourse

in visual narratology,

as well as carrying a large number of powerful messages, even in a stroke or a dot of each character,

that emerge from the convergence of art and Chinese language.

 

Calligraphy/Language/Art offers an innovative perspective on how we have explored

the links between visual art and written language. 

It calls attention to the inventive and subversive aesthetics of Chinese characters or writing in the 21st century.

2020 is the year of rat, the seventh year of 12-Chinese zodiac film production. 

These seven films are:

Wu (horse), Wei (sheep), Shen (monkey), You (rooster), Xu(dog), Hai (pig) and Zi (rat)

They are all completed by Yan Weihong and Zhao Hong

甲骨文,又称契文、甲骨卜辭、或龜甲獸骨文,主要指中國商朝晚期王室用於占卜記事而在龜甲或獸骨上契刻的文字,

是中國及東亞已知最早的成體系的商代文字的一種載體,但大部分还没有被释读出来。

Oracle bone inscriptions, also known as engraved scripts, worship scripts, or tortoise shell bone inscriptions,

mainly refers to the  purpose of divination carved on the tortoise shell or animal bone for Chinese royal family in the late Shang Dynasty.

It is the earliest known writing system in China and East Asia.

A medium of the Shang Dynasty writings, but most of them have not yet been read.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once observed how “the world globes itself in a drop of dew”. Just so does Weihong Yan’s research find the aesthetic of the earliest Chinese characters “globed” in the aesthetics of contemporary Western art. Where many have seen little or no commonality, Yan finds the Eastern and Western blended in a beautiful harmony built on the brush strokes of ancient Chinese writers and artists.

 

Professor Yan Weihong is a transcendentalist, a man of deep spirituality and indomitable devotion to 

the cross-cultural and comparative study of Chinese ancient writing and western contemporary art. 

His research is global and cutting edge.
